For the Love of God - Damien Hirst
"every artwork that interests me is about death"
'For the Love of God' is a platinum cast of an 18th-century skull. Hirst works with death as a recurring theme in his work, and this particular piece is certainly mesmerizing. The skull is studded with over 8,000 diamonds and worth $100 million.
"Because we are dealing with death, which is so negative, it has to be so positive," Hirst said in an interview with Tate (Tate, 2012)
The piece has been described as Memento Mori - a reminder that we all must die. A theme all to present in a lot of Hirst's work.
