Week 2 - 8th to 12th Feb

Moons And Moon Goddess

At the start of this project, I wanted to do a series about moons, and how my own spirituality relies on meditation under the moon as part of my quest to be more death accepting.

Of course, I faced some difficulty over the following weeks with my project, causing me to leave uni for a short amount of time to care for my grandmother who, in January of 2020 had been diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer. During this time I was not very creative and only managed to do a few pieces of work per week, and then eventually I stopped doing work until January 2021, almost an entire year after I found about my gran's illness.

During this time, however, I tried to continue working alongside dealing with my personal issues. It resulted in a branch of work that wasn't solely death focussed, as I was going through coming to terms with a loss during this time. The paintings I have put on this page are the starting points of the moon-based work, and I did more afterwards (although I don't know when so I'll attach the pieces onto this post as they could've been from any time between March 2020 and September 2020.

The unfinished moon painting that was left in my studio over lockdown.

This piece was done around March 2020, but I had started the designs in week 2.
It represents the Moon Goddess and I had tried to replicate the intense feeling I get when I look up into the sky, bright beaming lights and stars everywhere.
The original plan for this design was to spray paint an ouija board template on top of the moons, with the letters  D E A T H with a white circle placed around them.
