Painting, Drawing and Exploring Themes
During week 4 I wanted to further experiment with mediums and styles. I did a small A5 sketch using pen and ink of a skull with lines coming from the center outwards. This style stuck with me the most as I really like the distorted, dizzy effect the background created and it allowed the black and white skull to completely pop.
I also scanned this piece in and played around with it on photoshop. I don't like how they turned out, however.
Oil Painting
I also attempted using oil paints to create a lifelike sunflower but was unable to finish it as I couldn't afford to buy more oil paints. Overall, the painting worked well, but if I bought more paints I would go in and add brown tones and more red tones to the piece, I'd probably also create a greyer black for a shadow of the flower.
I wanted to try oil painting as I thought as my work is focusing on memento mori and vanitas oil and painting, in general, is a common medium used.
